Jennifer Seney
Accommodations and Learning Support Specialist
Assisting students and families in navigating the IEP process has been both my professional calling and my personal journey for over 25 years. Throughout my career as a special educator, I have served as an inclusion specialist, mentor to new special educators, team leader, and most recently, co-chaired a Champion Day—an event that is similar to the Special Olympics that celebrates the achievements of students with disabilities.
Over the course of my career, I have written and revised countless IEPs, collaborated with classroom teachers to make sure students receive appropriate accommodations and services, and modified curriculum to tailor the needs of the learning style for that particular student. I have chaired initial evaluations, annual reviews, and three-year re-evaluations.
My understanding of the IEP process extends beyond my professional experience. As the parent of a son with dyslexia and a nonverbal daughter who requires support with all areas of daily living, I have experienced special education from the family’s perspective as well. I know firsthand the emotions, questions, and challenges that families face, and I understand how important it is to feel heard, informed, and supported throughout the process.
In addition to my work in schools, I have helped many parents and family friends review evaluations, interpret testing results, understand IEPs, prepare for meetings, and advocate confidently for their children. My experience allows me to serve as an effective bridge between families and school teams, helping everyone work together to create an IEP that truly reflects a child’s strengths, needs, and goals.
One of my former students shared:
“Mrs. Seney was one of the best teachers and supporters I had while I was on my IEP. As someone who struggled every day in school, knowing I had the support of such an incredible teacher meant the world to me. She helped me organize my thoughts and my work.”
When working with families, I carefully review existing documentation, which may include the current IEP, psychological and neuropsychological evaluations, educational assessments, teacher reports, progress reports, and a parent and/or student intake form. I then provide individualized feedback, recommendations, and guidance to help families better understand their child’s educational program and prepare for productive conversations with their school team. I also offer consultations before Team meetings, helping parents understand the agenda, anticipate discussion topics, organize their questions and concerns, and feel confident advocating for their child’s needs.
Whether you are navigating special education for the first time or looking for support with an existing IEP, my goal is to help you feel informed, empowered, and confident as a supporter for your child. I look forward to partnering with you and supporting your family throughout the journey.
